Our Story

Mission

The AfroLatine Theology Project (ALTP) seeks to expand the narrative of Latine and Black theologies by centering the voices of Black Latines within theological/religious spaces. We educate about experiences of Black Latinidad by giving exposure to writings and stories that seek to diversify Hispanic/Latinx and Black theological and religious spaces. The project is guided by an anti-racist, anti-patriarchal, and anti-capitalist perspective and seeks to affirm all religious and theological expressions of AfroLatinidad.

Where it started

This project was born out of the lived stories of AfroLatines throughout time, but also as part of a conversation hosted by Jakes Divinity School entitled “Afro-Latinx Life, Culture and Spirituality: A Vibrant Part of the African Diaspora” which allowed us to emphasize the importance of sharing AfroLatine spirituality.
